The Secret to Achieving Your New Year’s Resolutions

Are you always setting goals and giving up a week or two later? Do you really want to achieve your goals this year? Here is The Secret to Achieving Your New Year's Resolutions at tipsaholic.com #goals #newyear #resolutions The Secret to Achieving Your New Year's Resolutions

According to TIME Magazine, the most popular resolutions that are abandoned throughout the year are losing weight, getting fit, quitting smoking, eating healthier, saving money, traveling, volunteering, learning something new, drinking less, and being less stressed. Okay, many of our New Year’s resolutions involve great goals. So, why do so many of us break them? What is the secret to achieving your New Year’s resolutions?

Come closer. The secret is…

Create a plan.

Any of these 10 popular new year’s resolutions can be achieved with a detailed and realistic plan.

Let’s try the most popular: losing weight. It’s a good goal, but it’s also very, very vague. Create a plan by deciding exactly how you want to lose weight. What kind of eating plan will you follow? Create a meal plan and follow it. Plan ahead what to order in restaurants. Plan out your snacks and prepared meals for busy days.

And what about exercise? Do you want to exercise twice a week or daily? Will you exercise in the mornings or afternoons? At the gym or at home? How long will your exercise sessions take?

Maybe you want to lose weight by walking every day. That’s a start, but your plan isn’t done yet. What would help you walk every day? Adopting a new dog would certainly do the trick. Or you could set up a walking group with your neighbors. Or commit to a 365-day walking instagram challenge and announce it to your friends on Facebook to hold yourself accountable.

Take the time to sit down and outline a full plan for meeting your resolutions. Break it down to actionable, realistic, and clear steps. With a plan, it’s so much easier to just follow the steps and achieve your goals.

Plan for obstacles as well, such as busy days or lack of motivation.

Let’s try another popular resolution that often get broken. Learning something new always sounds good until we realize… what next?

For example, maybe you want to learn a new language. Maybe your plan could be to set aside 20 minutes a day to work on learning Spanish. Decide how to spend this time – will you use flash cards? Work through a workbook? Take online classes? Watch YouTube videos?

You get the idea. If you’re serious about achieving your new year’s resolutions this year, create a plan and break it down to actionable steps that you can complete. Set more specific goals, such as losing one pound per week or adding $100 in your savings account per month, and plan how you will achieve them.

Good luck!
