13 Ideas for a Home Coffee Bar
If you love coffee, a fabulous home coffee bar will help your mornings (and afternoons!) be much more pleasant and efficient. Here are 13 ideas for a home coffee bar to help you create the perfect coffee bar that is organized, easy to use, and nice to look at.

A two-tiered serving platter, or even a three-tiered platter, will add both beauty and function to your coffee bar. See how beautiful a metal serving platter can be when filled with blue and white coffee accessories.

Here’s a simpler example, with a white two-tiered serving platter, that fits well with a streamlined coffee bar.

Grab a few canisters and put cute labels on them. Fill them up with coffee beans and whatever else you like in your coffee. This charming coffee bar includes two white canisters with chalkboard labels for decaf coffee beans and regular coffee beans. A stylish tray is sometimes all it takes to give your home coffee bar an organized look. Put your mugs, spoons, and canisters on one tray and it will look like one item rather than several items spread all over.

You don’t want to have to walk to your utensil drawer every time you want to stir a little cream in your coffee! Give your spoons an intentional spot in your coffee bar: a pretty jar, a cute mug, or a small tray will do the trick. These cute stamped spoons would be a great addition to any home coffee bar!

5. Add a piece of art that screams coffee.

Not only will the art piece add charm to your coffee bar, but it’ll also set the space a bit apart from the rest of the kitchen or whatever space you decide to put your coffee bar in. The next picture and many other pictures shown here all incorporate chalkboard art, which evokes the feel of a local coffee shop.

Fabric Wallpaper: 15 Helpful Tips From Experienced DIYers

Fabric wallpaper is a great way to decorate the walls in your home! If you want to try using fabric as wallpaper, here are 15 tips for DIY fabric wallpaper! Fabric Wallpaper 15 Helpful Tips From Experienced DIYers at tipsaholic.com #diy #fabric #wallpaper #tips #homedecor #decor

Fabric Wallpaper 15 Helpful Tips From Experienced DIYers
Fabric wallpaper is a great way to decorate the walls in your home! It’s cheaper than most wallpaper, relatively simple to install, and easily removed when it’s time. If you’re seriously considering covering a wall or two in your home with fabric wallpaper, read on for some handy tips on how to apply fabric wallpaper.

Three experienced DIYers, Emily of Emily A. Clark, Stephanie of Cre8tive Designs, and Sherry of Young House Love all tried the fabric wallpaper in their homes and shared their results and tips on their blogs. Here are their best tips all in one place for you!

Emily put up a beautiful chinoiserie toile fabric in her daughters’ bedroom using liquid starch. First, she rolled the wall with the liquid starch and then put the fabric on the wall. After pressing out all the wrinkles, she did another coat of starch on top.

Stephanie created an accent wall in her guest room with a bold yellow fabric with liquid starch. She put up the fabric panel by panel — she rolled a section of the wall with liquid starch and then rolled the liquid on the back of one fabric panel, and then put that up on the wall. Then she did the same thing for the next panel and so on.

Sherry covered a wall in her daughter’s bedroom closet in a whimsical floral fabric with only a staple gun and some fabric glue. She held up the fabric and stapled along the edges of the wall, starting at a top corner and working her way down.

Their fabric wallpapers are gorgeous, but they did encounter some trial and error in completing their projects. This is a good thing for you, since you can learn from their useful tips!

  • Use a busy fabric for your fabric wallpaper so it’s harder to see the seams.
  • Choose the right fabric for this project. Home decorator fabrics are great, 100% cotton fabric is a good idea. Velvet fabric is too heavy and silk fabric will leave behind water marks if you’re using liquid starch.
  • There are many wallpaper calculators on the internet, such as this one. You can use these calculators to help you figure out how much fabric to buy.
  • Buy a few extra yards of fabric in case you make some mistakes.
  • Heavily textured walls might not work well with liquid starch. You could try sanding down the walls before starching.
  • Remove the face plates of outlets and light switches before putting up the fabric.
  • Get someone to help you if possible; an extra set of hands is so useful in holding up and positioning the fabric.
  • Use thumb tacks to hold up the fabric as you roll on the liquid starch or staple away.
  • Use a broad knife or wallpaper brush to quickly smooth out fabric and press it on the wall, especially in the corners. If you don’t want to buy a new tool, a piece of stiff cardboard works. This is for the liquid starch method.
  • If the starch dries and the fabric doesn’t adhere, add more liquid starch.
  • If you’re stapling the fabric to the wall, keep the fabric pulled taut as you staple.
  • Overlapping the edges of your fabric panels is easier than butting up the two edges.
  • Use a staple gun along the seams of your fabric panels if you’re using liquid starch and feel like your fabric needs the extra hold.
  • Use an x-acto knife to cut away excess fabric along the edges of the wall and around outlets. Use a brand new blade for best results.
  • Cover up the cut edges with ribbon trim. You can hold down the ribbon trim with black furniture tacks (like Emily did) or glue it with fabric glue (like Sherry did).

Thanks to these tips, it should be a pretty straightforward DIY for you that will give you amazing results! For a general idea of the costs of fabric wallpaper, it cost Emily around 170 dollars to cover her wall with 9 yards of fabric and 15 yards of ribbon. Of course, the final cost breakdown depends on your fabric choice. Find a great fabric you love on sale and you’ll pay even less for a beautiful accent wall.

Don’t want to cover a whole wall, but love the idea of using fabric on the wall? Consider fabric wall decals or covering the back of bookshelves with a pretty fabric.

9 Tips for Creating the Perfect Gallery Wall

9 Tips for Creating the Perfect Gallery Wall - Tipsaholic, #gallerywall, #art, #DIY, #artwall, #photos, #pictures

1. Create impact.   By definition, a gallery wall adds impact and punch to a space.  An effective grouping uses visual interest for impact.  There are a few different ways you can do this.  You can use frames of different textures, sizes, and colors, along with different mat sizes.  You could also intersperse mirrors, art, monograms, or other items between photos to break up repetition.  Try using unique items paired with items of completely different styles design-wise to create a more eclectic look.  For instance, clean, simple lines on a few frames, a vintage mirror and some industrial address numbers could round out a gallery wall.

2. Strike a balance.  Your elements don’t have to be all the same size – quite the opposite, actually.  What you DO need to focus on is balancing your wall.  Placing large items all on one side with small framed pictures next to them can make the wall seem lopsided.  If all of the elements you use are dark and large, the whole wall can feel heavy and oppressive.  You don’t have to use symmetry to achieve balance, rather make sure you break up your larger pieces with smaller elements and space things appropriately.

3. Establish unity.  Every element you use in your gallery should be united in the same manner.  Unity is achieved in many different ways, or even a combination.  For instance, seemingly incongruent photos could show your child’s growth over time.  Use items from your vacations to create a travel wall.  Tell a story from your family history with photos and heirlooms.  Unity can also come through the physical appearance, as well.  Use like-colored mats or frames.  If the photos and artwork are from different times, places, eras, and subject matters, print them all in black and white.  Any combination of these will create a cohesiveness that makes your gallery wall look polished.

4.  Be uniform.  While the sizes of the individual elements do not need to be uniform, and the spaces between them likely won’t be either, the shape around the entire collage should be.  There should be a clearly defined shape around the outer edge of the gallery wall with no pieces jutting out oddly beyond the rest.

5. Fake it first.  Lay your pieces on top of paper and trace around them.  Cut them out and use painters’ tape to hang them on the wall.  This way you can easily move all of your elements around without making any marks on the wall.  You’ll be much better able to visualize the end result with fake stand in items that are impermanent.  Plus, you can place nails and screws right through the paper – it makes it easier to tell if you’re placing them at the right spots, level and far enough apart – and just pull the paper out when you’re done.

6. Height matters.  Be sure to hang things at the right height.  Concentrate on the distance things are from the floor.  As a general rule, your focal pieces should be hung with their midpoints at eye level.

7. Use teamwork.  When it comes to hanging your piece, teamwork is best!  That way you won’t need to climb up and down the ladder excessively.  You’ll also have someone on hand to tell you if things are straight, fetch items, and bounce ideas off of.  Sure, you can go it alone, but it’s more fun with a partner anyway!

8. Play around.  Have fun with it!  Don’t take yourself too seriously.  When it comes to your home and your design, there’s no wrong way.  Make sure to move things around more than once to get a better idea of what will look best.  In the end, go with your gut.  Your eyes won’t lie, what looks right probably is!

9. Gather ideas.  There are a lot of templates and layout ideas out there on the internet.  Here are a few to help you get started on your own gallery wall:

What kind of tools do you have in your toolbox? Does your collection include your smartphone? It should, since your phone can be turned into a wide array of useful tools with the help of these awesome DIY apps! For those of you who are interested in home improvement, carpentry, and other DIY projects, check out these DIY apps to see how they can make your life much easier.

Level Apps

If you’ve ever hung up a picture frame or a shelf, you know how important it is to have a good quality level in your toolbox. Make it easy to make sure everything in your home is not crooked by having a level app on your phone so you can whip it out of your pocket at any time.

Multi-Measures (iOS, Android) has both a surface level and a spirit/bubble level, but this DIY app also includes many other tools that you might find useful, such as a plumb bob, compass, and decibel.

iHandy Carpenter (iOS, Android) is similar to the previous app; it includes a level, surface level, plumb bob, and a few more tools. It’s nice-looking and pretty popular with DIYers. However, if all you need is a level, you can just download the iHandy Level Free (iOS, Android).

Measuring Apps

Home improvement includes lots of measurements, unless you like cabinets that don’t fit or furniture that’s too big for your space. A measuring tape always works, but why not use your phone instead so you don’t have to bring your tape to every store you go to?

Dimensions (iOS) is a great DIY app that measures many distances in your home and your yard and saves all of your measurements for you. You can measure your walls, your garden, and even tiny objects! The app also comes with several other features.

There are so many measuring apps that it’s impossible to mention them all, but some notables are Smart Measure Pro (Android), Dot Measure Pro (iOS), and Easy Measure (iOS, Android).

If you need to send over a whole list of measurements to your carpenter or your interior designer, or if you’re shopping for furniture and need to bring a lot of measurements of your home with you to find the perfect fit, you can save all of your measurements and put them around your pictures. You’ll be able to do this with the Photo Measures Lite (iOS, Android) app.

Painting Apps

You’re probably doing (or planning on doing) a lot of painting if you’re a serious DIYer or even just a homeowner. A good painting app will make this task a lot easier to plan for and complete.

Several paint companies have their own apps, but a well-liked one is ColorSmart by BEHR (iOS, Android). You can perform color-matching with your phone, as well as finding paint color schemes and testing out your paint colors in various photos of rooms and styles in the app.

Prefer to test out paint colors of actual photos of your rooms? Get the Paint My Place App (iOS) and do just that. It uses several paint brands so you can choose your favorite one. Change the paint colors of a room or the exterior of your home and narrow down your selections before heading over to the paint store.

If you just need to know how much paint you need to complete your project, the Paint Calculator Pro (iOS, Android) will help you find out. The app also will inform you how much your painting project will cost you and quotes from pros if you’re considering hiring help instead of doing it yourself.

Gardening Apps

Have a garden or a yard you’d like to add a garden to? Or maybe you just need help with increasing your curb appeal with landscaping? Check out these gardening apps and see how your phone can make your outdoor space more beautiful and functional.

Garden Plan Pro (iOS) is an all-comprehensive app that will help you design your garden, know when to plan certain corps, know where to plant your seeds depending on sun/shade, and set reminders that help you maintain your garden throughout the year.

The Garden Compass Plant/Disease Identifier (iOS) app is great for beginning gardeners and landscapers. You can use the app to identify plants that are already around your home by taking a picture of them. It also identifies diseases and pests.

New to gardening? The When to Plant (iOS) app will tell you exactly when to plant whatever you want to grow. You’ll put in your zip code and get all the information you need to begin gardening. For those of you who don’t have an iPhone or iPad, you can also download this app onto your laptop or computer.

Carpentry Apps

Whether you like to make or refinish furniture, you’ll benefit from adding a few carpentry apps to your smartphone.

Woodcraft (iOS) is a handy DIY app to have if you like to build. It develops 3D models of your creations and helps you come up with a list of measurements of wood to buy so nothing gets wasted. This app will be very useful whether you’re looking to build simple shelves to fit a weird space in your garage or to adjust measurements on a DIY furniture plan to better fit your home.

I.D. Wood (iOS) helps you identify the various types of wood so you can select the best type for your project. If you’re refinishing an existing piece of furniture, you can use the app to find out what wood it is and how to best refinish it.

This list only barely scratches the surface of the world of DIY apps. There are sewing apps, floor plan apps, decor and furniture shopping apps, and even garage sale and flea market apps! Whip out your smartphone and find out just how useful it can be. And who knows what our phones can do for us in the future, even just a year from now.

What other DIY apps do you love? This list needs more android-compatible apps, so feel free to add your favorite DIY apps in the comments!

1. No-Sew Ruffled Tree SkirtThe Johnston’s – It’s hard to believe there’s no sewing involved here, but it’s true!  Fabric strips, a pre-made skirt base and hot glue – that’s all you need.  It looks like a million bucks.

2. Plaid and Pom Pom Tree SkirtSomething Is Done – If you like plaid for winter (and it’s really a winter staple, right?) you’ll love this skirt.  The photo tutorial makes it an easy sew while the pom pom trim adds the right touch of whimsy.

3. Felt Fringe Tree SkirtPretty Prudent – This cute and modern skirt uses felt, which makes it a quick sew with no hemming or raw edges involved!  The fringe element is a fun alternative to ruffles and you can customize it with any colors you’d like.

4. Rustic Tree Skirt, Country Woman Mag – This truly unique take on the tree skirt idea is intriguing.  It makes use of grapevine wreaths in graduated sizes stacked around the bottom of the tree.  There’s no sewing – or fabric! – involved though it still looks festive without the ruffles, lace and standard Christmas motifs.

5. Ruched Tree Skirt, Teal and Lime – This tree skirt takes the classic circle up a notch.  It’s a nice, simple look with one color and a small unified detail all around that makes it understated and classy.

6. Sequin Tree Skirt, Flowers are Lovely – Want to add a little sparkle under your tree?  This skirt is killer glam without going overboard.  The gold sequins are just the right amount of shine, without being glittery and gaudy.

7. Burlap and Felt Tree Skirt, Decorating Ideas Made Easy – This skirt is a simple design with some fancy touches.  An outer ruffled tier and tiny felt flowers add charm, but it’s the covered buttons that really pull it together.

8. Sweater Skirt, So Eclectic – With an old sweater, a scissors and a couple of stitches, this Christmas tree got a cozy skirt with a custom look.  It’s got a warm and homey look that’s truly inviting.

9. Scalloped Tree SkirtCentsational Girl – These scallops are a lot easier to make than you’d think – because they’re felt!  Attach a bunch of felt half-circles around a bottom layer of fabric cut in a circle, and you’ve got a cute scalloped skirt without the headache!  It’s fanciful and fun, and the unconventional colors make it pop.

10. Tablecloth Turned Tree Skirt, design POST Interiors – If you think tree skirts are too much trouble, try this one before swearing off the DIY look.  It’s made from a round tablecloth, so with two cuts you’re finished!  It literally takes about a minute to complete.
