Hot days call for cool treats! Let the kids take over the kitchen and use these simple popsicle recipes to banish boredom and cool the masses. There’s a frozen treat recipe here for every taste from chocolate to fruit, and many of them are low-sugar and low calorie. Get the kids involved and mix up a few of these fantastic frozen goodies today!
1. Nutella pops
This chocolate delight is almost too easy to put together! A little Nutella, some whipped topping, and milk combine to make a light and chocolatey treat that will beat the heat. Use paper cups and popsicle sticks or get a popsicle mold.
A little milk, chopped strawberries, and a pack of white chocolate pudding (sugar free if you like!) are all you need to whip up a batch of these pudding pops. Help kids top the popsicle molds off with some slices of strawberry to make it pretty!
Help kids alternate pouring root beer and scooping ice cream into a popsicle mold to make tasty layers. Inevitably, some of the soda will mix with the ice cream and give the whole treat that beloved root beer float flavor!
These cookie cups need a little more parent involvement in order to melt the chocolate, but the result is worth it! This snack is all about the layers – a mint cookie base, mint ice cream, and a chocolatey topper. If the kids aren’t interested in mint, try using Oreo cookies for the crust and another favorite ice cream for the center.
You don’t have to call it healthy if your kids are wary of the word, but it really is! Frozen strawberries, yogurt, agave, and lemon juice are the only ingredients. Blend it together and serve it in a cone or bowl.
Everything is better in miniature, right? Kids will love making and eating these tiny treats. Simply sandwich a dollop of ice cream between to vanilla wafer cookies, roll the edge in sprinkles, refreeze, and eat.
Search your local grocery store for new flavors of sparkling soda. You might be surprised at all the tasty options there are! Grab a few flavors and let the kids make their own combinations in a Popsicle mold, ice cube trays, or even a plastic bag. Be sure to leave some room for the soda to expand as it freezes. Once everything has frozen, kids can have fun mashing and smashing their creations to turn it into a “snow cone.” To make it quick, just throw the frozen soda into a blender with a little more soda from the bottle and serve.
Peel and freeze a bunch of bananas and then show the kids how to blend them up with a little bit of milk or cream. Set out small dishes of ice cream toppings – chocolate chips, fruit, coconut flakes, sprinkles, fudge sauce, peanut butter, and whatever else your family loves. Kids will have a blast creating their own banana ice cream sundaes!
