5 Places to Shop for Affordable Activewear
Finding comfortable, attractive and affordable workout apparel can sometimes be as much of a challenge as getting to the gym. Plus, don’t you feel more motivated if you know you have a cute outfit to wear? I know I always do. If you’ve made a resolution to get in shape this year or just need to revamp your athletic wardrobe, here are five awesome place to shop for affordable activewear.

1. Forever 21

When you think about where to buy activewear, Forever 21 is probably not the first store that comes to mind. Surprisingly, this trendy retailer has some awesome, quality workout apparel this season. Run circles around your friends in this eat dust muscle tank and sunburst printed athletic leggings for less than $35 total. Use the promo code GETFIT to get free shipping on all online activewear purchases made thru January 31st.

2. Target

Target is already a go-to place for amazingly affordable and stylish home decor, why not make it your go-to store for workout wear as well? Home to the C9 by Champion brand, you can choose from a variety of shorts, pants, tops, sports bras, and even athletic shoes all typically priced between $10 and $35. This figure flattering fit and flare tank is a mere $22.99 and is currently on sale, as are these functional woven running shorts with built-in compression shorts that are between $11.38-$18.99 depending on your color choice.

3. Fabletics

Fabletics is celebrity Kate Hudson’s recent venture into the athletic apparel world. Complete outfits start at just $49.95 and come in a variety of colors and on-trend silhouettes. Become a VIP member and you get your first full workout outfit for only $25, plus exclusive discounts and offers each month. I’ve got my eye on this outfit comprised of the switch back tee and sydney capri.

4. Old Navy

With sizes ranging from XS to 4X, Old Navy active wear caters to women of all shapes. You can typically receive 25-40% off on top of their already reasonable prices. This clever graphic workout tank is available in women’s and women’s plus and is only $10! To get through the next few chilly months, get one of these cute half-zip pullovers, which are on sale for $19 and available in eight different colors. For women with larger busts, it can be difficult to find a supportive sports bra that doesn’t cost less than $50-75. However, I’m a big fan of the Old Navy active sports bra and its affordable price tag at only $17.

Looking for name brand activewear without the name brand prices? Nordstrom Rack carries designer and name brand workout apparel at half the price you’ll pay at a regular department store. You can purchase pieces in-store or online. This classic Adidas colorblock tee is 63% off and costs only $14.97. If you’re in the market for new athletic shoes, you can’t beat Nordstrom Rack’s selection or prices.

Exercise Like A Kid: 5 Fun Workout Ideas

5 Fun Workout Ideas - Tipsaholic.com

Whether you’re a beginning exercise enthusiast looking for ways to stay inspired or a more seasoned fitness fanatic, these fun workouts can add variety to a lack-luster routine. And what could make working out more fun than hearkening back to a time when “working out” was called playing – and guess what? You did it every day. And you liked it. These five ways to workout emphasize the fun and play parts of exercise, the childhood nostalgia parts. The more endorphins that flow during your workout, the more likely you are to return and give it another go, and this sense of nostalgia is perfect for that. It’s time to play all over again.

5 fun workout ideas - Tipsaholic.com

1. Jumping rope

If you’re into a more sophisticated workout, then this jump rope might do the trick. This rope, however, could really get you in the spirit to chant “Cinderella, dressed in yella.” Jumping rope to your favorite music is a great place to start, but you might also try a jump rope workout.

2. Hula hooping

Never underestimate the power of a good hula hoop. A few minutes into a hula and your abs will get a real treat. And don’t stop there – remember how fun it was to keep it spinning on your arms, your neck, and maybe even your foot? If you’re a beginner, try this read-along hula hoop workout or enjoy a video workout.

3. Playing ball

Balls come in all shapes, sizes, and weights, and the list of activities you can do with them is a long one. If you’re not ready to venture into a sport, try just bouncing or throwing a ball against a wall or back and forth with a friend. Invest in a sturdy exercise ball and take a ride across the living room on your tummy. Or, if you’re not up for that, try a simple exercise ball workout like this one.

4. Body-weight challenge

Your body is quite possibly the best piece of workout equipment you will ever own. Challenge it! You may not feel confident in your hand-stand and cartwheel skills these days, but a workout that challenges your body in a similar way could inspire further fun workouts. Try this series of at-home exercises from Self Magazine – all you need is your rockin’ bod and a blank wall.

5. Dancing

Every kid loves to groove to a good beat, and with the right music, you might find yourself enjoying movement in the same way. Choose music that you enjoy, whether it is Top 40 hits, classical, big band, jazz, rap, or country. The more you enjoy the music, the more likely you are to want to get up and move. And don’t let the word “dance” scare you. Even if you have no dancing background, you can still move to a beat and find the rhythm that’s right for you. Check out this instructional video for a few simple dance moves if you’re not sure where to start! And if you’re ready for a more advanced workout, try this half-hour cardio dance workout.

6 Simple Ways to Lose Weight

It can be tough to lose weight when you already have a lot of other things on your plate like work, hobbies or family. Here are some simple tips that you can use in every day life to burn or save some extra calories.

6 Simple Ways to Lose Weight - Tipsaholic.com

6 simple ways to lose weight - Tipsaholic.com

1. Find exercise in daily life

Whether you just can’t find the time or motivation to exercise or you’re already at the gym five days a week, find ways in your daily life to burn a few extra calories. Take the stairs or park your car farther away are two simple, but widely known ways to fit some extra cardio in your day. If you work at a desk, get up every hour to take a quick walk around the office or to get a drink of water.

2. Use smaller plates

Dinner plates are gigantic these days. If you use a small salad plate instead and load that up, you’ll think you’re eating more because the plate is full. Plus, if you’re using a large plate it’s easy to over-serve yourself. With a smaller plate, there’s a chance to stop and think if you’re really still hungry before going in for seconds.

3. Drink water all day

Not only is staying hydrated good for you, it’ll help you eat less. Often people will mistake thirst for hunger. Keep a glass or bottle of water next to you all day and you will drink it because it’s close. Before you sit down to eat a meal, drink at least half a glass of water and there won’t be enough room to over eat without feeling extremely full.

4. Save it for later

Whether you’re at a restaurant or at home, keep a reasonable portion on your plate and pack the rest up for later. As soon as the waiter brings your food to the table, ask for a to-go box and stash half of it away. If you’re at home, quickly serve yourself and then put the rest away to deter yourself from going in for second.

5. Snack

Eating throughout the day keeps your metabolism going and prevents you from feeling famished at meal times. If you keep healthy snacks around there’s less of a chance that you’ll go looking for food between meals and end up eating something unhealthy.

6. Eat your vegetables

Your mother told you to, but you may or may not have listened. Load your plate up with veggies! Pile vegetables on your plate first and then everything else rather than the opposite. If you fill your plate half way with vegetables first, there’s only half a plate left for everything else.

7 Easy Tips to Increase your Metabolism

how to increase your metabolism

Well we are all getting older, if there is one thing that no one can stop it is that, aging.  But have you ever noticed that some people’s metabolism never seems stops.  They are fit and healthy for years, and without trying?  Well, they have what you would call an incredible metabolism.  What is that, (for those of us who don’t have it…)  A metabolism is the holy grail of all the health conscience, simply put it is the rate at which your body burns calories.  Burning calories = Awesome!

For those of us that don’t have that it can be rather frustrating, but whether or not your are gifted with that dream metabolism, there are some things that you can do to get your metabolism back up.  Everyone — no matter how old, overweight, or out of shape has the power to increase their metabolism, so let’s do this:

7 Easy Tips to Increase your Metabolism

1.  A good foundation:

Be sure you get the proper amount of sleep.  The simple lack of sleep can decrease the calories your body burns while resting or performing just the basics like, breathing, pumping blood, and repairing damaged tissues.  This resting calorie burn represents about 60 to 75% of your daily calorie burn so it is important to keep your body rested in order for it to run properly.

2.  Strength Training:

We burn calories round the clock just to survive, even when we are at rest. To rev up your metabolism you need to increase your body’s need for energy.   The trick is that those people with more muscles, burn more calories.   Muscle burns 3 times as many calories as fat, even when resting. Putting on just 5 to 10 pounds of lean muscle mass can burn roughly 100 additional calories even when you are resting just to maintain itself.

3. Be intense:

To rev up your metabolism for hours after the fact, try intense aerobic exercise. But you gotta push yourself. High-intensity exercise delivers a bigger, longer increase in resting metabolic rate. So instead of just walking try to add a few short bursts of jogging. And think about this for a second, working out in the morning has the benefit of revving up your metabolism for hours.

 4. Eat wisely:

Dieting = bad.  When you restrict your calories, your body thinks it is starving, and actually slows your metabolism.  So eating a balanced healthy diet daily and aiming to simply cut 100 calories from you would normally eat is safer.  It is easier than you think, practice leaving just two bites of food on your plate at each meal. And you can easily avoid that extra hundred calories, maybe more, by the end of the day.

Remember that diets that highly restrict calories usually leave the body searching for energy and it uses muscles before fat, which will lower your metabolism even more!

5. Small and Frequent:

Don’t let your body think that is is starving, instead feed yourself small, nutrient packed meals frequently throughout the day.  This helps to assure your body that you aren’t going to starve. Your body’/s natural defense to starving is storing fat, in case the next meal doesn’t come.  The good news is that generally people eat less overall when they eat mall frequent meals.  Avoiding that feeling of being starved, also helps your food choices.  You can be more in control rather than reaching for fast junk food because you can’t stand another minute of hunger.

 6. Drink it up:

What is our body mostly made of?  You guessed it water!  Our bodies use water all the time, in fact it must have water to process calories.  If you are even slightly dehydrated your metabolism can slow down.

“In one study, adults who drank eight or more glasses of water a day burned more calories than those who drank four.”   Keep yourself hydrated by having a glass of water of beverage before each meal!

7. Keep your cool:

When our bodies have to work to keep ourselves comfortable temperature wise, they burn more calories… WOW!   Also according to studies, animals and people both, consume more food when temperatures are neutral, and eat less when they feel too hot or cold. You don’t have to torture yourself, but just a slight change in the thermostat might help you burn a few extra calorie.
